Let's talk about workcations, that magical blend of productivity and exploration. And guess what? Florence is an absolute gem for just that!
Want to know how I know? Earlier this year, I spent a fantastic workcation week in Florence and it was bellissimo! I can certainly see why Florence is one of the most popular cities in Italy.
Let's review 7 key reasons why I think Florence is an ideal destination to combine business and pleasure.
1. Florence is Easy to Reach
Getting to Florence is straightforward. Fly directly to Florence from major cities across Europe on low cost carriers like Ryanair.
We discovered that Florence is also well-connected by train to other cities in Italy, and you can snag some great deals, like the two-for-one train tickets I scored from Bologna.
2. Florence has a Walkable City Center
Florence's heart is compact and perfect for exploring on foot. Our Airbnb on Via Delle Ruote was within walking distance of all the major sights. Imagine strolling past the Duomo on your way to a cafe for your morning cappuccino!
3. Florence is a City of Cultural Immersion
From the Uffizi Gallery to the Accademia, Florence is brimming with Renaissance masterpieces. Think about gazing at Botticelli's Venus or Michelangelo's David during your lunch break! It's like stepping back in time.
4. Florence is a Foodie Paradise
Get ready for some Italian culinary delights! Florence is a foodie's dream come true. From mouthwatering pizza at the Mercato Centrale to a modern take on delicious Tuscan cuisine at L'Ortone, your taste buds will thank you.
And don't forget to indulge in a mini truffle sandwich at Procacci – pure decadence!
5. Florence has Great Day Trip Potential
Want to escape the city for a bit? The Tuscan countryside is right at your doorstep. We took a fabulous wine-tasting day trip to the Chianti region and soaked up the stunning scenery.
6. Florence Has Good Value-for-Money Options
Florence can be surprisingly affordable, especially if you're smart about it. The Firenze Card is a great value, giving you access to tons of attractions and museums. In some cases, you can skip the queue or gain entry earlier than the general public. We booked a 72 hour pass and took advantage of a 48 hour extension for free.
Plus, there are plenty of affordable restaurants and cafes scattered throughout the city to help manage your trip budget.
7. Florence's Early Morning Magic
Did you know that rising early in Florence is a game-changer? You can beat the crowds and have iconic sights like the Uffizi Gallery all to yourself.
We enjoyed walking the streets of Florence before they became flooded with tourists later in the day.
Making it Work: My Florence Workcation Routine
I spent a week's workcation in Florence, which gave me plenty of time to both get my work done and see all the sights.
Our routine was simple: get up early, hit up a museum or two before the crowds arrived, then settle into work for the afternoon and evening before heading out to a delicious dinner. It was the perfect balance!
My Top Tip: March is a sweet spot for visiting Florence. The crowds are manageable, and the weather is pleasant.
So, what are you waiting for? Pack your laptop, grab your passport, and get ready for an unforgettable Florence workcation! You'll come back refreshed, inspired, and with a renewed appreciation for the beauty of this amazing city.
